The Impressionists and the Man Who Made Them – special screening Seventh Art Productions Tuesday 10 September 2019

1400 - 1530 in the Screening Theatre on the first floor of the University of Portsmouth’s Eldon Building

We will be hosting a special screening of ‘The Impressionists and the Man Who Made Them’ on Tuesday 10 September from 2.00-3.30 pm in the Screening Theatre on the first floor of the University of Portsmouth’s Eldon Building, just along the corridor from our usual lecture venue. Tickets are £10 and will be available at our evening lecture on Tuesday 9 July and on the door. Please note that capacity is limited to 80 for this event. This is a new venture designed to offer members a September event during the summer break from our evening lecture programme.

The film is by Seventh Art Productions as part of their ‘Exhibition on Screen’ series, and records an exhibition of Impressionist art accumulated by Paul Durand-Ruel, the 19th century Parisian art collector.  Degas, Manet, Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, and Sisley are among the artists he helped to establish through his galleries in London, New York and Paris. The exhibition, bringing together Durand-Ruel’s treasures, is the focus of the film, which also interweaves the story of Impressionism and a look at highlights from Impressionist collections in several prominent American galleries.

We hope you will be able to join us for this enjoyable and informative film.
